Canon's profits jump on digital cameras sales

Friday, January 31, 2003 Canon's profit rose 14 percent in 2002, setting a company record for the third straight year on solid digital camera sales. The company said it expects more growth this year.

Canon's profits for 2002 $1.6 billion, up 14 percent from previous year and better than the company's forecast of $1.5 billion.

Despite the overall stumbling electronics industry in Japan, Canon came up a winner. Canon executives credited the growing demand of digital cameras for the company's latest results. Canon put out 12 new digital camera models last year.

Canon aims to post another record-breaking profit of $1.7 billion in 2003 on sales of $26 billion.
