Samsung Electronics said it succeeded in developing what it claims is the world's first 72Mb DDR3 SRAM that generates a 1.5Gbps transfer speed.
The device offers twice the capacity of 32Mb DDR3 SRAMs, currently the fastest DDR3 SRAM model out in the market, and can process 480,000 pages' worth of data per second.
"We implemented our advanced 90nm circuit technology to develop the product," a Samsung Electronics official said.
Considering that the exiting 32Mb DDR3 SRAM is priced at US$200 per unit, the new chip should be lucrative for the company, industry watchers said.
Samsung Electronics is the world's biggest SRAM manufacturer. It currently holds 30% control of the world SRAM market.
