Solectron said it won a five-year, $1.4 billion contract to produce printed-circuit-board, memory modules and other undisclosed products for Hewlett-Packard.
Solectron said it will make the HP products in its Puerto Rico facility and at other locations across the globe.
Although the companies did not provide additional information, the agreement announced today is seen as part of HP's efforts to streamline its production and take advantage of the cost benefits offered by contract manufacturers.
The PCB and other products to be produced by the EMS provider are destined for HP's mid- and high-end enterprise servers and other end-equipment, Solectron said in a statement.
