Micron Technology has signed an agreement with Celeton to distribute its memory based product line in India.
Celeton will support the products product line, including DRAMs, SRAMs and Flash memory and CMOS image sensors.
Under a captive distributor model, Celeton will support Micron with a network it has in place to distribute its own memory and power supply product line, operating as a value-added distributor by creating demand and dedicated technical expertise in addition to manufacturing services.
While Micron is the first supplier outside Celeton's brand to sign up under this model, it may not be the last. Well versed in the market, Celetron has served India since the late 1970s and could easily extend its distribution network into new product segments if the agreement with Micron proves profitable, according to Vikram Chopra, Celeton's vice president of sales and marketing in Mumbai, India.
"We would expand this model to include other suppliers only if we can add value, not just to distribute the product," said Chopra, who declined to speculate on revenue gains from the line.
"Celetron will give Micron local support in India. There will be an interface between their product development team and our manufacturing team."
