Transmeta's Crusoe processor will be used in Viglen's new eXaro tablet PC, which is on sale now in the United Kingdom.
Besides Viglen, the low power Crusoe chip has also been used in several other tablet PC, including the ones that Hewlett-Packard offers.
Tablet PCs typically use Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet PC Edition software, weigh 2.2 pounds to 4 pounds, feature energy-efficient processors and 10.4-inch to 12.1-inch touch screens. They are portable and equipped with wireless network capability.
Sales of tablet PCs have been strong in Europe so far. A recent report showed that tablet PCs accounted for 1 percent of European notebooks during the fourth quarter. That's an impressive start, considering the launch of the product in November last year, London-based Context said.
Viglen is a subsidiary of Learning Technology. It sells PCs under its own brand name as well as ones from Toshiba.
