Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices on Sunday cut prices on selected desktop processors, with AMD making some of the steepest reductions.
AMD slashed the price tag of its Athlon XP 2200+ by 32% to $107. The Athlon XP 2400+ was cut 27% to $141; the Athlon XP 2700+ was cut 23% to $267 and the Athlon XP 2600+ was pared 19% to $241.
Intel cut prices of ten top-speed Pentium 4 processors, with reductions of 6% to 21%.
The largest -- 21% -- cuts included P4s at 2.66GHz (now $241) and 2.53GHz (now $193), both with 533MHz front side bus; and 2.6GHz (now $241) and 2.5GHz (now $193), both with 400mhz FSB.
Four P4 processors from 2.2GHz to 2.4GHz with either 400MHz FSB or 533MHz FSB were each cut 16% to $163.
Even Intel's highest speed Pentium 4 chips had their prices pared slightly. The 3.06GHz with 533MHz FSB was cut 8% to $589. The 2.8GHz with 533MHz FSB was cut 6% to $375.
All prices are based on 1000 unit quantities.
