Samsung Electronics and LG recently revealed plans to hitch up prices of TFT-LCD products.
The two companies, which currently take up 40% of the world TFT-LCD market, will likely raise the value of 15-inch and 17-inch TFT-LCD products by 3-5%.
This would raise the value of 15-inch products to US$170-180 per unit and 17-inch items to US$260-270, industry watchers forecasted.
The decision by Samsung and LG to raise prices of TFT-LCDs is due to a rise in demand of the products since the end of 2002, when prices of 15-inch products dipped to US$164 per unit.
With demand rising and production falling short of consumption, the value of TFT-LCDs will continue to rise by approximately US$10 over the next month, an analyst at Woori Securities Co, Ltd predicted.
