Hynix Semiconductor confirmed that Eui-jei Woo, formerly co-president, has been named chairman and sole chief executive, to head up a restructuring of the Korean chipmaker.
The reorganization involves consolidating management of separate R&D and operations departments in a new single unit. Hynix said this will increase efficiency and reduce the time-to-market for new products.
Separate multiple R&D sections will also be consolidated into a new Product Development Center to control the product cycle from design through mass production.
In other changes, Choon-sik Oh, senior vice president and head of the memory R&D center, will become chief operating officer of the memory chip division.
Previously, Hynix management had accepted eight resignations of executives among the 40 officials of the firm who offered to resign. "Since only a few resignations were accepted, Hynix does not expect any impact on the company's operations," according to a statement by the Korean chipmaker.
