Storage market grew in Q4


Monday, March 10, 2003 Storage sales grew 12% sequentially in the fourth quarter with IBM and HP taking the lead, IDC reported. Storage sales totaled $5.4 billion in Q4 2002, dropped 15% over 2001.

HP and IBM each garnered 25% of sales in the quarter, with $1.37 billion and $1.34 billion, respectively. EMC was third with 11%, or $505 million in sales; Sun Microsystems had 6%, or $225 million in sales; and Dell Computer Corp. and Hitachi Data Systems each grabbed 5% of the storage market, with $278 million and $277 million respectively, the researching company said.

IDC forecast for a slight decline this year over 2002 sales.
