Motorola said it expects the average price of a cell phone to drop about 5 percent in 2003 amid higher than normal inventories worldwide, said an executive of Motorola.
This is a good news for customers but not so for cell phone makers and wireless carriers. Analysts said cell phone sales in 2003 will decline.
One of the main reasons is a lack of new customers. For instance, analysts said 51% of adults in the United States own a cell phone. The percentage is even higher in some countries in Asia.
