Broadcom ships millions of 802.11g chipsets

Wednesday, March 12, 2003 Broadcom said it has shipped more than three million 802.11g-draft specification WLAN chipsets since last December.

The total includes radio chips, baseband processors and wireless processors found in routers, according to the executive of the company's wireless business unit.

Shipments of 802.11 chipsets will grow 80% in 2003 to reach 35 million units, according to a researcher firm. The 802.11g is backward-compatible with the 802.11b standard but transmits data more than four times faster than 802.11b.
