Former Vice President Al Gore has joined Apple Computer's board of directors, the computer maker said Wednesday (March 19).
“Al brings an incredible wealth of knowledge and wisdom to Apple from having helped run the largest organization in the world — the United States government — as a congressman, senator and our 45th vice president,” said Apple chief executive Steve Jobs. Jobs called Gore an “avid Mac user.”
Gore said he was impressed with the new Mac OS X operating system and said he was looking forward to working with other Apple board members. He'll have his hands full. The PC industry is in the midst of a prolonged slump that has forced PC makers to slash prices.
Gore also serves as a senior advisor to search engine leader Google Inc. He is a visiting professor at the University of California Los Angeles, Fisk University and Middle Tennessee State University. He recently announced he would not seek the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination.
