Dell see that Corporate will lead PC rebounce

Thursday, March 20, 2003
Dell Computer Corp is one of the world's largest direct dealers of personal computers. This year the company is planning to break the tradition by targeting the corporate users to increase its sales.

According to Dell manager Mike Shih, the company is going to concentrate on the small-to-medium enterprises and larger corporations in 2003. Last year Dell sold a paltry 3,400 notebook computers in Taiwan, placing it in the No.12 spot in contrast to market-leader Acer Inc with sales of 87,000 units. This shows a big room for improvements.

It can also get help from its strong global brand name, to increase sales in Taiwan. However many analysts do not give positive opinion to Dell’s strategy. They said the corporate market is not that strong at present, and companies do not have the money to spend on IT.

According to the marketing manager Doreen Ko, Dell's new D-Series of notebook computers is based on the latest Centrino computer chips which Intel launched last Wednesday. The chips also include power-saving features that increase the battery life of notebook computers by an extra hour to last four hours. Local notebook sales are expected to grow by about a quarter this year, so Dell may be able to get a bigger slice of the market than it had last year.
