Gateway Inc,said it will introduce two digital projectors in the second quarter as the No. 3 U.S. personal computer maker diversifies its product line further.
Gateway said the two projectors, the Gateway Model 205 SVGA and the Gateway Model 210 XGA, are aimed at the small-and-medium-sized business and education markets. The projectors each weigh 3.5 pounds and have the dimensions of a medium-sized book about 2-1/2 inches thick.
Gateway is not making the projectors itself and has engaged a contract electronics manufacturer to produce them. The projector announcement come on the heels of Gateway's third restructuring since 2000. The company said on March 17 it would reduce its staff of 11,100 by 17 percent, or 1,900 positions, and close more than a quarter, or 80, of its 272 retail stores, leaving 192 open.
Gateway said that the 205 model will cost about $1,399 when it is available, and is aimed at business users and educators who need a portable projector.
The 210 model is aimed at business customers who need a broader array of ways to connect the projector. The 210 model also has an option network module that provides Ethernet connections, as well as WiFi and USB wireless connections. The 210 model will cost $1,999 when available and the networking module will cost $549, Gateway said
