NEC is looking to sell its 200mm wafer fab located in Livingston, Scotland. NEC is currently talking to potential buyers at the SEMICON Europa conference in Munich, Germany, this week.
The Livingston fab has over 200 tools, and was used to manufacture DRAM for mobile phones. NEC Semiconductor Inc. announced its decision to close the plant in December 2001, after earlier attempts to keep the site running by reducing the workforce.
“This is part of the continuing trend for companies to tighten up balance sheets by selling off hard assets,” said a company spokesman.
