Silicon Integrated
Systems (SiS) is considering spinning off its graphics chip unit, according to a
source familiar with the company.
Details of the
company’s new organizational structure and product strategy will not be
finalized until Q3, but under the plans SiS will move toward high-end products
in its graphics chip business and UMC will be its only foundry partner for
high-end production, the company reported earlier.
While SiS was boosted
by its Xabre-brand chips in 2002, the company has always played chase up in the
graphic market behind competitors Nvidia and ATI.
