Multimedia projectors are expected to become the next big thing, as Dell Computer along with many competitors recognizes the opportunity. Dell is now selling the new 2100MP multimedia projector at $1,299.
Multimedia projectors were initially so expensive, costing $3,000 or more just three years ago that sales were limited to business travelers who needed to make presentations. Likewise, "home theater'''' projectors, intended for sophisticated and very expensive movie-screening rooms, cost $4,000 or more.
Now the new category of "cross-over'''' projectors, intended for both business and entertainment use is available for as little as $1,200. This is a bargain compared to other big-screen TV options such as a 50-inch plasma TV might cost $10,000. Dell is seeing the big pictures and start selling the projectors as one of its lines.
