Silicon Integrated Systems Corp. (SiS) today said it is in the process of negotiation with Intel Corp. for a new-generation chipset license.
The Taiwanese company expects to have final result in a short period of time, withholding details and claiming that it would be "inappropriate" for SiS to make any comments at this juncture.
SiS did, however, stress that it maintains a good relationship with Intel and that it respects IP rights, perhaps to buck at VIA Technologies Inc. VIA settled a series of pending patent lawsuits, walking away with various immunities and licenses including a Pentium 4-based chip set license, with Intel on Monday.
Intel and SiS originally signed a licensing agreement in March 2001 that allowed SiS to sell chipset products that are compatible with the Pentium 4 microprocessor bus.
