Avnet Applied Computing (AAC), the Phoenix-based division of Avnet Inc. focused on enterprise solutions, launched a service to allow systems builders to quickly customize and validate whitebox servers based on the Opteron processor introduced today by Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
QuickSource, an online configuration tool for the AMD Opteron, enables users to create build-to-order custom solutions based on reference designs and components from AMD, as well as Hitachi, Seagate, Micron, Fujitsu, and Newisys. Supplier product combinations have already been validated and the orders can ship as a kit for system builders to assemble or as an integrated, out-of-the-box, plug-and-play solution.
"The first product is server-based, but we will add desktops, workstation and notebook computer product lines in the next couple of weeks," said Charlie Babb, vice president of AAC.
Babb said a pass code will allow authorized system integrators to access the site. Pricing for products and configuration is customer specific and is geared toward the approximately 700 system integrators that AAC serves. QuickSource is designed to help system integrators get product to market faster, in some cases enabling them to ship systems within 72 hours based on product availability at the time the order is placed, the company said.
