Advanced Micro Devices Inc. today announced the promotion of two sales executives in its Asia/Pacific and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions.

In a new role, Kazuo Sakai has been named group VP, sales and marketing, Asia/Pacific. Sakai-san will be responsible for AMD's sales and marketing activities for the region, except China and Korea. Sakai-san most recently served as AMD's VP, sales and marketing, North Asia/Pacific and president, AMD Japan. He will continue to serve as president, AMD Japan.

Meanwhile, Giuliano Meroni has been appointed group VP, sales and marketing, EMEA, and worldwide distribution. In this expanded position, Meroni will watch over AMD's worldwide distribution channel sales and strategy while leading AMD's EMEA sales and marketing activities. Meroni previously served as AMD's VP of sales and marketing, Europe.

Both executives will continue to report to Henri Richard, AMD group VP of worldwide sales.

"These promotions are part of AMD's continued efforts to focus the entire organization on building strong bonds with strategic customers," Richard said in a statement. "During their long and distinguished careers with AMD, Giuliano and Sakai-san have each developed highly effective sales teams, and built close relationships with key customers and complementors who have become important partners. I look forward to Sakai-san and Giuliano applying their leadership skills to a broader range of responsibilities."
