FedEx Freight, FedEx Trade Networks, and FedEx Ground today launched an ocean and ground service from Asia to virtually all continental U.S. zip codes through FedEx Trade Networks Ocean-Ground Distribution service in an effort to reduce inventory cycle times compared with traditional ocean service from Asia.
FedEx Freight, which provides regional "less-than-truckload" freight services, FedEx Ground, which specializes in small package ground delivery, and FedEx Trade Networks, which handles customs clearance, freight forwarding, and trade facilitation, are all FedEx Corp. subsidiaries.
FedEx Trade Networks will prepare and place into containers shipments in Asia and manage the ocean-going portion of the service in addition to customs clearance and document preparation. FedEx Freight and FedEx Ground are assigned the task of handling inland distribution transportation once shipments have been cleared at U.S. container freight stations in so-called gateway cities.
Users of the service will be able to track shipment status through the FedEx Website. FedEx claims customers can "cut multiple days from their overall transit times using FedEx Trade Networks Ocean-Ground Distribution service compared to traditional Asia-U.S. ocean ground transit times."
