The Computex Taipei trade show, one of Asia's largest PC events, has been postponed, due to concerns over severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
The event, which was expected to bring in 20,000 visitors, was originally scheduled for June 2-6. The show's organizers, the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) and the China External Trade Development Council (CETRA), made the decision to postpone Computex and have not announced a new date for the event.
The TCA and CETRA decided to postpone the event after conducting a survey to exhibitors and buyers. "The results show that most of the exhibitors would like the show to be postponed due to the current SARS situation around the world," the TCA and CETRA said in a statement.
The sudden outbreak of SARS is causing a disruption in the supply chain and prompting several companies to delay or postpone their events.
Intel Corp., for example, has decided to cancel forthcoming Intel Developer Forums in Taipei and Beijing due to fears over SARS.
Earlier this month, the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI) trade group postponed the Semicon Singapore 2003 show, due to concerns about SARS. The trade show, scheduled from May 6-8, is Southeast Asia's largest conference for chip-equipment makers. The event has been rescheduled for Aug. 12-14.
