VIA Technologies Inc. announced Q1 results showing an $18.6 million loss, down from Q4 2002's $20.4 million  loss and up from the $28.9 million profit it recorded in the year-ago period.

Net sales of $164 million compared to Q4's $190 million (6.6 billion TWD) and $211 million in Q1 2002.

The results were in line with the graphic player's expectations and the loss was attributed to legal expenses, in part. VIA closed a long-running patent case with Intel in April, walking away with various immunities and licenses
