Motorola Inc. has closed its main sales and administration office in Beijing after a staff member contracted the potentially deadly Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
About 1,000 employees have been asked to work from home for about two weeks, returning to the office next week, the report said..
So far there have been 214 deaths among 4409 reported SARS cases in China, according to the report.
The SARS-afflicted employee fell ill on April 24, and his condition was confirmed on May 1, but his fever has subsided and the employee is expected to recover, the report said.
About 600 employees in Motorola's other Beijing sales and business office were unaffected.
