Samsung Electronics said it is developing a new RDRAM memory module with a small footprint that will contain the entire Rambus channel auxiliary circuitry dubbed the "NexMod"
The NexMod module is targeted at space-constrained applications, such as networking systems and communications products. The Rambus memory channel is constructed on one board and measures 1.1in x 2 in. and is less than a half-inch in height.
The single module incorporates termination resistors, a Rambus clock generator, and a voltage regulator in the same module as the memory chips. The module also features demountable area array connectors to lower impedance, delays, and cross talk.
NexMod can be attached to motherboards with pin grid array connectors or soldered with BGA technology.
The Samsung NexMod modules are available in memory sizes from 128Mbytes to 256Mbytes.
