Computex Taipei 2003, one of the world's three largest computer fairs, has been rescheduled for September 22-26 at the Taipei World Trade Center, sponsors of the event said on Wednesday.
Because of the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), the semi-official China External Trade Development Council (CETRA) and the Taipei Computer Association announced in early April that the international computer show, originally slated for June 2-6, was to be delayed until September. Entering its 23rd year, Computex Taipei has become one of the most important marketing platforms for domestic computer manufacturers to explore trade opportunities, according to a CETRA official.
The official said CETRA has received applications from more than 1,100 domestic and foreign computer firms wishing to take part in the annual Taipei computer show, which is the largest information-technology (IT) event in Asia and among the world's three leading computer trade shows, together with CeBIT in Hannover, Germany, and Comdex/Fall in Las Vegas.
Exhibitors are expected to display their state-of-the-art products at about 2,500 booths this year, the official said, adding that some 100 manufacturers are still waiting to fill possible vacancies at the annual trade fair.
