Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc., announced two 64-bit MIPS-based RISC processors made by parent company Toshiba of Japan that use 90nm processing.
Targeted at set-top boxes, laser beam printers, and networking systems handling a high level of graphics data, the processors consume 0.6 W at 400 MHz, which Toshiba claimed is the lowest of any comparable RISC MPU.
The chips integrate 32Kbytes of instruction cache and 32Kbytes of data cache on the die. Toshiba said the CPU core has a dedicated debugging support unit and an external enhanced JTAG interface for execution control.
In quantities of 100, the model TMPR4955CFG-400 processor costs $35 while the TMPR4956CXBG-400 costs $45. Samples of both devices will be available August with mass production to begin the end of 2003.
