Microsoft Corp.said it will invest more than $1.7 billion in its next fiscal year for research and development of its Microsoft Windows Server System. In addition, the company will also invest $450 million in community-based efforts that support information technology professionals and developers.
These investments are designed to decrease ongoing maintenance costs associated with IT, decrease the time IT requires to deliver new business capabilities, and increase the ability of IT to provide services that deliver competitive advantage to business, the company said.
Separately, Microsoft said it will ship Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services by the end of the year. The company said this move will allow every employee at every level to have better access to information that will increase their decision-making capabilities.
