VIA Technologies Inc. said it has filed suit against MediaTek Inc., charging the company with  patents infringement on optical storage controllers technology, reported by a local news in bay area.

Filing in San Francisco U.S. federal court, Via alleges that MediaTek's DVD-ROM, CD-RW, and CD-RW/DVD controller products infringe on VIA's patent for the operating method and bandwidth of high-speed optical storage devices, the news sources said. 

VIA is seeking a preliminary injunction of the import and sale in the United States of the MediaTek optical storage units. Via and MediaTek are both companies from Taiwan.

Analysts see an increasing trend of foreign companies filing suits against each other in U.S. courts to bar the competitors from importing products into the large U.S. market.
