Nanya see May revenue increased

Tuesday, June 10, 2003
Nanya Technology expecting its May's revenues to increase by 38% month-on-month to NT$2.19 billion, as many of its clients placed their orders, according to Nanya's vice president Charles Kau.

It also expects to post a second-quarter loss due to memory-chip prices have yet to recover from a slide started in the fourth quarter last year. Nanya's May sales were close to the company’s internally calculated break-even point of between NT$2.2 billion and NT$2.3 billion.

The spot price of the most widely used computer-memory chip has since risen by almost 9 percent to US$3.30, according to Taipei-based Dramexchange. Improving demand for personal computers should continue to help lift memory-chip prices, the company said. Most Taiwanese DRAM makers are currently maintaining a positive outlook over the future of the DRAM sector in the third quarter of this year and particularly in June.

Analysts expecting the IT industry to recover from slump that lasted for more than one and half year ago. The US-Iraq war and SARS epidemic affected in the first half, but it won't be a factor in the second half.
