Intel Corp. Wednesday introduced a Mobile Pentium 4 family of processors with frequencies up to 3.06GHz and a new value-end Celeron series, both targeted for large transportable notebooks that are capable of replacing desktop PCs.
The new processors are higher performance but consume more power than the existing Pentium 4M, Pentium M and mobile Celeron lines.
Intel also unveiled the 852PM external graphics and 852GME integrated graphics chipsets to support the new Mobile Pentium 4 and Celeron MPUs.
The new Mobile Pentium 4 comes in four speed grades from 2.4- to 3.06GHz. All have a 533MHz front side bus and consume 4.5 watts of power in battery mode. The devices range in price from $186 for the 2.4GHz processor to $417 for the 3.06GHz version, all in lots of 1,000.
Intel also introduced a 2.6GHz Pentium 4M mobile processor with a 400MHz FSB, consuming 2 watts of power. Intel said the speed bump will be last for the Pentium 4M family. The MPU is priced at $562 in 1,000 unit quantities.
Three new Celeron transportable notebook processors also were introduced. The 2.2GHz chip is $74, the 2.3GHz processor is $79, and the 2.4GHz MPU is $84, all in 1,000 unit quantities.
