The United States slapped a final import duty of almost 45 percent on South Korean memory-chip maker Hynix Semiconductor to offset alleged subsidies by Seoul, the U.S. Commerce Department said on Tuesday.
The Department's final estimate of the amount of South Korean government aid reflected in import prices for Hynix's dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips was down from a determination of 57 percent it had made in early April.
Financially troubled Hynix could still escape the duties if the International Trade Commission determines that the U.S. petitioner for the action, Micron Technology Inc., has not been hurt by subsidized competition from South Korea.
