DRAM contract prices for 256Mbit DDR DRAM rose 5-6% in the second half of June, according to DRAMeXchange.
The spot price for 256Mbit 400MHz DDR DRAM, however, has risen by over US$2 in less than a month to an average of US$5.29. Many in the industry believe 256MB DDR module prices will reach US$34-38, with comparable increases in contract prices.
Industry observers see the surge in DRAM spot prices as a move of restocking and do not see it as actual increases in consumer demand.
The high season for PC and computer product sales is approaching. DRAM makers are hopeful that consumer demand will rebound in the upcoming months.
