Intel said on Friday it will set up a research and development facility to develop IT software in Ireland, alongside its European wafer fab.
With 12 million Euro (about 13.7 million) and 40 software engineers to start with, the office is designed to establish collaborative research and develop links with colleges and organisations in Dublin, Ireland.
Focus areas will include network resource sharing, hand-held and wearable devices and educational technologies, the company said.
Intel currently employs 3200 people in Dublin, and an additional 92 workers employed at Intel Communications Europe in Shannon, Ireland, which is a product development arm for the communications product group.
