ChipMOS Technologies' chairman Hu Hung Chiu announced that he was stepping down from his position and he would focus on restructuring at parent Mosel Vitelic Inc., which controls Taiwan's second largest maker of computer memory chips.
Current deputy chairman and CEO S.J. Cheng will take over as chairman. "Hu will still keep his position on the board of ChipMOS," said Cheng Shih Chieh, chief executive officer of ChipMOS.
Mosel last month deferred settlement of a NT$4.7 billion bond after missing payment in April. Mosel pledged 25 percent of ProMOS, a venture with Germany's Infineon Technologies AG as security for the NT$4.7 billion debt.
The ChipMOS board still hasn't voted on the new chairman to replace Hu, Cheng said. Mosel vice president Thomas Chang said the company held a board meeting on Friday and decided to cut some jobs and transfer employees to ProMOS.
