Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and Fujitsu Ltd. formed a new venture called FASL LLC that combined their flash memory businesses.
FASL, being considered the world's largest flash memory manufacturer, has the combined gross assets of approximately $3 billion and roughly 7,000 employees.
AMD and Fujitsu said their separate flash memory divisions have been integrated into FASL, which is 60% owned by AMD with Fujitsu controlling the remaining 40%.
The companies said FASL is headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., and will be headed by Bertrand Cambou as president and chief executive.
