Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) has said to reduce the 0.25- and 0.35-micron processing prices by 10% to 15% for the fourth quarter, accordingly to a news release.
The news source indicated that the two major foundries have to take the price cut because other Asian foundries, including Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing (Chartered) and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) are quoting prices 10-20% less for the same processes. In additional, the 2nd tier foundries are narrowing the gap in the 0.25- and 0.35- micron yield.
TSMC and UMC slashed 0.25- and 0.35-micron processing prices below US$1,000 for the third quarter back in May.
