Transmeta added LPC flash driver on TM8000

Wednesday, July 23, 2003 Transmeta Corp. said Tuesday (July 22) it has added flash-memory capabilities for its next-generation microprocessor.

Transmeta's recently-introduced TM8000 processor will incorporate low-pin-count (LPC) flash devices from Sharp Microelectronics Inc. and STMicroelectronics Inc. LPC flash allows for fewer signals and support components while enhancing design simplicity.

Sharp, STMicroelectronics and Transmeta are combining efforts to provide the TM8000 with 16-megabit LPC technology.

Sharp's LHF00L01 and STMicroelectronics' M50LPW116 line of flash memory will support the TM8000 processor. The TM8000 is on schedule for production in the third quarter of this year. The TM8000 processor, targeting mobile and high-end embedded markets, is an enhanced version of Transmeta's Crusoe processor architecture for improved performance and energy efficiency.
