Silicon Storage Technology Inc. said it has licensed its 0.25 micron trademarked SuperFlash flash memory process to Malaysia's 1st Silicon Sdn. Bhd, which would use the technology for its foundry customers.
1st Silicon said the SuperFlash technology, which had similarly been licensed from SST by companies like IBM, Motorola, NEC, Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and Co. Ltd., would help raise its competitiveness.
"We selected SST's SuperFlash technology because of its high reliability, logic compatibility and low-cost structure," said John Nelson, chief executive of 1st Silicon, Kuching, Malaysia. "By accessing this well-proven and highly successful technology, we can serve the manufacturing demands of customers worldwide, as well as local design houses here in Malaysia."
SST and 1st Silicon said they expect to begin pilot production of the SST SuperFlash technology by next spring.
