Hynix Semiconductor rolled out a 256Mbit DDR500 SDRAM and said volume production starts in August.
The company said the 500Mbit/s chip is aimed at the gamer and PC enthusiast market that is willing to pay a premium price for better performance.
Although the part has yet being officially approved by JEDEC, Hynix and a few module makers have tested the chips to be operating at that high speed.
The DDR500 will be available in FBGA, TSOP or QFP packages using 0.13-micron process technology, Hynix said.
