Toshiba Corp reported a larger quarterly loss from a year ago, hurt by falling prices of notebook computers overseas and poor demand for factory-related equipment like power generators as well as Toshiba's household products such as television.
Toshiba's consolidated net loss totaled 36.85 billion yen ($307.5 million) in the first quarter ended June 30, compared with a loss of 18.8 billion yen a year ago. Revenues fell 6.2 percent to 1.12 trillion yen from a year earlier.
Toshiba maintained full-year profit estimates for a group net profit of 40 billion yen and operating profit of 170 billion yen on sales of 5.7 trillion yen.
One bright spot for the company was its chip division that produces NAND-type flash memory. The electronic devices division posted a seven billion yen operating profit, an improvement of 13.1 billion yen from last year.
