NEC plans to outsource its 3G handsets production (about 1 million units per month) for market outside of Japan to Solectron's plant in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province (China), according to its press release.
NEC said Solectron has begun the production of the e808Y 3G handset featuring two built-in digital cameras, a full QWERTY keyboard, a 65,536 color screen and 16 ring tones.
Analysts said NEC has become a major supplier in global 3G handset by supplying handsets to J-Phone and NTT DoCoMo in Japan as well as DoCoMo’s overseas affiliates such as AT&T Wireless Services in US, KPN Mobile of the Netherlands and KG Telecommunications (KGT) of Taiwan which are lauching their respective 3G services.
