The Taipei City government recently introduced an EZ Call Information System Services that will allow the mobile and fixed-line users to obtain helpful information for the Taipei residents at the edge of their fingers.
EZ Call currently has 35 channels offering content such as news, lotto numbers, parking lot information, cultural programs, traffic updates and medical services, and the city plans to increase the number of channels to 99, said Chang Chun-hung, director of the city information management center, which planned the voice system.
Mayor Ma Ying Jeou said: "High tech has significantly improved quality of life issues." The new service adds to a number of city initiatives to make Taipei more connected. The city has given every Taipei resident a free e-mail account as well as a chance to take part in a free three-hour Internet training session. Some 220,000 residents have signed up for them so far.
A number of Wi-Fi "hot spots" have also been established near City Hall to bring more mobility to notebook computer users. The EZ Call information system is provided by call-center technologies provided by Taiwan Teleservices and Technologies Co., a subsidiary of the Taiwan Telecom Group, and is accessible by dialing (02) 6626-2100 through fixed-line phones or 2100 through mobile phones affiliated with Taiwan Cellular Corp., Far EasTone Telecommunications or KG Telecom. Chunghwa Telecom users should dial 62100.
