Gartner Dataquest is predicting a third quarter jump in DRAM sales with figures expected to be in excess of 35 percent ahead of those for the second quarter of 2003.
That would take DRAM sales above $5 billion in the third quarter. The second quarter's sales were $3.723 billion down on sales of $3.743 billion in the first quarter.
An increase in DRAM sales would be consistent with a seasonal increase in PC sales augmented by PC chip sets that support increased use of double data rate DRAMs.
However, such a strong jump in sales would probably require a jump in DRAM prices along with increased unit sales.
