Hynix adds hi-volt flavor to 0.18 process

Wednesday, September 3, 2003 Seeking to expand its silicon foundry business, South Korea's Hynix Semiconductor Inc. has completed development of its 0.18-micron, high-voltage process technology for use in single-chip applications.

The process technology was developed to address the increased requirements for single-chip LCD driver chips. The single-chip solution includes a gate, source, controller, DC/DC converter and SRAM on the same device.

Tomato LSI, a leading IC design house, developed a "one-chip" LCD driver IC, based on on Hynix's technology. Volume production through Hynix will begin later this month.

This process technology results in chip sizes that are 20-30 percent smaller than the current pure foundry service providers, Hynix said.

Hynix has scheduled the release of its ultra low power process technologies for mobile applications by this December, as well as various voltage ranges by February 2004 to strengthen its distinct competitive advantage in high-voltage processes.
