Chinese foundry Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) has chosen Singapore-based ST Assembly Test Services Ltd. (STATS) to provide mixed signal test services, the companies said today.
The SMIC deal represents the first for STATS' Pudong, Shanghai facility. STATS announced its expansion to China in July, and the new plant is scheduled to be ready for operation by the end of October. STATS will provide SMIC with test engineering support as well as wafer probe services.
"This is a significant first step for STATS Shanghai," said Tan Lay Koon, STATS' president and CEO.
A pure-play foundry, SMIC operates three fabrication plants and offers 0.35 micron, 0.25 micron, 0.18 micron and finer line IC manufacturing capabilities. The company's technical capabilities include devices such as logic, mixed signal, high-voltage circuits, DRAM, SRAM and system-on-chip.
