DRAMeXchange reported that global DRAM output was up by 5% in August, month over month, hitting a total of 266 million die (256Mbit-equivalent). The upswing was due to increased production from 12-inch fabs and continuous upgrades in production process.
DRAM makers in Europe and Taiwan posted the highest growth in August. In addition, major suppliers have been successfully upgrading production to 0.13- to 0.11-micron from 0.14- to 0.15-micron processes, said the company.
DRAM production will continue to increaes through year-end by small margins, the company said. Major DRAM suppliers have been cautious about capacity expansion in relation to timing and market demand to avoid dampening DRAM prices.
