TSMC's August sales hit a record of NT$18.3 billion, up by 3.8% month-on-month and 35.2% year-on-year while UMC announced an increased by 9.3% year-on-year for the same.
TSMC’s wafer shipments in the third quarter of 2003 are expected to be 5%-9% higher than the company’s earlier forecast, according to the company.
Analsyts said the the upbeat results of TSMC and UMC signify that the semiconductor industry is on the path to recovery. Stronger demand in communications and consumer electronics products will be driving TSMC to post increases in the fourth quarter, analysts said.
