Spansion unveils 512Mbit NOR flash

Thursday, September 11, 2003

Spansion samples its first 512-Mbit NOR flash memory device. The S29GL512N is using the so-called 'MirrorBit' 130-nanometer manufacturing process technology.

Spansion is the trade name for FASL LLC, a joint venture by AMD and Fujitsu.

"Less than two months ago, we launched the Spansion memory brand as a new leader in flash memory," said Bertrand Cambou, president and chief executive officer of FASL LLC. "Today's introduction of the world's highest density NOR Flash memory device using 130-nanometer 2-bit per cell MirrorBit technology affirms the leadership of Spansion Flash memory technology and innovation."

The Spansion 512-Mbit is the first device in a family of 512-, 256-, and 128-Mbit flash memory devices. Initially available using 130-nm process technology FASL intends to move to a 110-nm minimum geometry by way of a shrink of this process. The 256- and 128-Mbit devices are being designed using the reduced dimension process technology, FASL said.
