Ingram Micro takes huge charge on Micro Warehouse bankruptcy

Thursday, September 11, 2003

Ingram Micro said it expects to record a third-quarter charge of up to $20 million in the wake of the Micro Warehouse Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

The charges are related to accounts receivable from Micro Warehouse which filed for bankruptcy protection Wednesday after selling certain North American assets to rival CDW for $22 million.

Ingram said Micro Warehouse was one of its larger North American customers with sales of approximately $75 million for the second quarter of 2003 with outstanding accounts receivable of approximately $25 million and related allowances for bad debt of approximately $5 million.

The company said that it was "unfortunate that you have a distributor like Ingram who essentially in one day is writing off approximately 10 years worth of profit."

Ingram currently has outstanding receivables of approximately $12 million from Micro Warehouse's European operations, which were not affected directly by Micro Warehouse's announced sale of assets to CDW or the U.S. Micro Warehouse bankruptcy filing.
